UND – Magazine for Alternatives, Contradictions, and the Concrete is a print magazine for art, everyday life, and contemplation that has been issued in Innsbruck/Austria since 2015. In every issue, about 50 contributors find a space to creatively deal with contemporary topics and questions.
UND…
… is a magazine inviting you to become visible and network with each other! Twice a year, there’s an open call, and we publish two issues every year.
UND…
… intertwines illustration, scientific essays, short stories, project presentations, photography, drawings, interviews, paintings, poetry, reportages, experimental and everyday stuff to a coherent whole and shows one thing above all: There are infinite ways of looking at a topic, of which each end every single one is worthy of being reflected.
UND…
… tries to also give voice to creative, critical and reflected people far away from the established media landscape – and allow them to cover current topics.
UND…
… won’t reproduce stereotyped points of view – but is open-minded and a good listener instead. It stirs up your creative potential and motivates you to reflect and contemplate.
UND…
… lives and works in Innsbruck, where it’s well connected and cooperates with regionally-based cultural institutions, initiatives, associations, university departments, illustrators, and socially engaged creative artists. Furthermore, UND cooperates with partners, supporters, and sponsors rooted in the region. It’s now read all over Austria and until well into the whole German-speaking area – we receive contributions from all over Europe, and we’ve been able to form sustainable cooperations with other European cultural networks.

… organizes a release event twice a year in ever-changing places in Innsbruck. Here, the contributors have the chance to perform in front of an audience and present their contributions.
FAQs
We announce a topic for each issue of UND magazine and announce it in an open call. We provide you with the editing, layout, graphics, and proofreading – you creative, motivated people provide us with the content.
We’re always on the lookout for challenging, socially relevant topics for our issues that allow for manifold approaches and perspectives. They should be interpretable discursively as well as both aesthetically and formally.
The decision about which of the submitted works will be published is made in several jury sessions, which are attended by the editorial team and some ever-changing external members. Proximity to the topic of the current issue is one important selection criterion. However, the selection is not solely based on “qualities” regarding content and/or style, but it is also about covering a variety of types of images and texts as wide as possible, as well as different perspectives on the respective topic of the issue.
